Day Trips by Minibus from Cluj: Routes for Groups of up to 17

A group of a dozen people and a single vehicle is the simplest way to see Transylvania. Everyone arrives together, the schedule is yours, and the driver deals with parking, routes and the roads you would rather not drive yourself.

Popular one-day routes

Turda Salt Mine and Turda Gorge

The classic. The salt mine in the morning, lunch in Turda, the gorge in the afternoon. Both are under 45 minutes from Cluj, so the day is relaxed rather than rushed. Bring a jacket for the mine — it stays at 10–12°C all year.

Alba Iulia and the citadel

Alba Iulia is an hour and a half away, mostly on motorway. The star-shaped Alba Carolina citadel is fully restored and entirely walkable, with a daily changing of the guard worth timing your arrival around.

The Apuseni Mountains

Several options depending on how far you want to go: Lake Tarnita and Belis-Fantanele for lakes and forest, the Scarisoara Ice Cave for something unusual, or Rimetea for the white-house village beneath Piatra Secuiului.

The spa resorts

Baile Figa for salt water pools an hour and a half away, or Nymphaea Aquapark in Oradea for a bigger day out.

Sibiu or Sighisoara

Sibiu is under two and a half hours on motorway; Sighisoara around two. Either works as a long day, though both reward an overnight stay.

Maramures
