Barsana Monastery is the most photographed wooden monastic complex in Romania, with the tall, sharp spires typical of Maramures architecture. It stands in the Iza Valley, around 215 km from Cluj — 3 hours 15 minutes to 4 hours of driving, through Dej, Baia Mare and the Gutai Pass.
The Maramures circuit
Few visitors come only for Barsana. The usual itinerary includes:

The Gutai Pass
