Praid salt mine, a family destination
The Praid salt mine is one of the most visited in Romania, used both as a tourist attraction and for treating respiratory conditions — which is why it appears so often in the plans of families with young children. From Cluj Airport it is around 168 km, covered in 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours.
The route
The Cluj ring road, the A3 to Campia Turzii, the DN15 through Ludus and Targu Mures, then on towards Sovata and Praid. The final section is hill road with attractive scenery and light traffic outside the peak season.
What to know beforehand
- Going down into the mine is done on the salt mine own bus from the access point — we drop you exactly there
- The underground temperature stays at around 16°C; dress accordingly
- Time needed: 3–4 hours for a relaxed visit, with play areas for children
- Accommodation is usually in Praid or Sovata; we drive straight to the address
