The Gothic castle at Hunedoara
Corvin Castle is the most visited castle in Romania and one of the most spectacular Gothic buildings in Europe. From Cluj it is around 195 km, covered in 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 15 minutes, almost entirely on high-speed road: the A3 to Campia Turzii, the A10 towards Sebes, the A1 towards Deva and then a few kilometres to Hunedoara.
It works as a day trip
Unlike the Maramures destinations, the drive here is fast, so a one-day excursion works well: leave at 08:00, arrive around 11:00, visit for 2–3 hours, have lunch and return to Cluj in the evening. That is the format most people book: a package with waiting included, at a price fixed in advance.
