Bear Lake, under three hours from the airport
Sovata is known for Bear Lake, the largest heliothermal lake in Europe, and for a summer season that draws visitors from across Romania and from Hungary. From Cluj Airport it is around 158 km, or 2 hours 20 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes: the A3 to Campia Turzii, the DN15 through Ludus and Targu Mures, then on to Sovata.
Seasonality
Demand is strongly seasonal, peaking between mid-June and early September when the lake is open for bathing. For the rest of the year, transfers are mainly for the treatment centres, which operate all year. In summer weekends the final kilometres from Targu Mures to the resort can be busy; allow 20 extra minutes in your planning.
Combining with Praid
