Stana de Vale is a mountain resort set above 1,100 metres, in an area known for clean air, springs and high rainfall — hence its exceptionally lush vegetation. From Cluj it is around 150 km, covered in 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours.
The route
We take the DN1 westwards through Huedin and Ciucea, then drop towards Beius and climb the road into the resort. The final part is mountain road with hairpins; in winter the pace slows and the journey can take 30 minutes longer.
